Well-known painting and calligraphy artists from Mainland China gathered in the Grand Hotel for arts
The President of ARATS, Chen Yun-Lin, who came to Taiwan for the 8th cross-strait talks on August 8th. He again led the “ARATS Cultural and Creative & Calligraphic Arts Exchange Group” of more than 50 people to visit Taiwan and stayed in the Grand Hotel on September 10th. The delegation stayed in Taiwan for 10days for visiting activities. The former Vice Chairman of Chinese Calligraphers Association, Mr. Chang Biao, also contributed a calligraphy of the words: “Continuous Mountains congratulate the 60th Anniversary satisfyingly (Yuan Man Liu Zhi, Shan Lien Wan Feng)” to celebrate the 60th birthday of the Grand Hotel.
The president of ARATS Chen Yun-Lin said that the delegation is composed of two groups. One is cultural and creative group, composed by industrialists, government officials and the academia. This group includes the officials who are responsible for policy making and implementation, the leaders of local cultural parks, the principals of several universities and professionals. The mission of this group is mainly to enhance mutual understandings of current situation of cultural and creative industry; furthermore, to seek and discover the possibilities for cooperation. In addition, they would like to understand and review the existing policies of cross-strait cultural and creative cooperation and related issues. Lastly, they would prepare for the follow-up services of trade negotiation in the second half of ECFA (Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement). The other group is the calligraphic arts group, it is composed by well-known calligraphers and young talents. They would like to establish a platform and build a bridge between people on both sides through high-level culture and arts. The president Chen also indicated that in the “12th Five-Year Plan” of mainland China and the “Golden 10 Years” of Taiwan, we can see that both sides share the same vision for the development of cultural and creative industries. Besides, in the direction of development of cultural and creative industries, China and Taiwan have their advantages respectively. He believed that both sides will be complementary to each other through cooperation and create a win-win situation.
Most of the well-known calligraphers from this group came to the Grand Hotel for the first time. They were very impressed by the architecture features of the hotel’s Chinese palace-style building and its abundant cultural and artistic heritage. They praised the Grand Hotel as a great representative of Chinese arts. Before their leaving, each artist especially made an artwork in public as a gift for their trip. The former Vice Chairman of Chinese Calligraphers Association, Mr. Chang Biao, just held a special calligraphy exhibition “ The Fu for the figures of the 1911 Revolution of China” in Beijing. He especially contributed a calligraphy with the words: “Continuous Mountains congratulate the 60th Anniversary satisfyingly (Yuan Man Liu Zhi, Shan Lien Wan Feng)” to celebrate the Grand Hotel’s 60th birthday. The Vice Chairman Chang’s artwork also became a precious heritage asset to the Grand Hotel.
