In 2013, the second sixty-year of the Grand Hotel has started up!
By viewing the splendors in the past, the Grand Hotel is opening a new future towards sustainable management in 2014.
In order to enhance the lodging quality, the first stage of renovation of guest rooms has started from October 1st, 2013. The renovation of the elite rooms and corridors on the 7th, 8th, 9th floors and the modification of gym to elite rooms have been completed at the end of March. The elite rooms will provide service with a brand-new look.
The historic Grand Hotel is able to attract tourist to stay and explore the historical paths of the hotel. However, historic doesn’t mean old. The hotel’s appearance may age with time, but the aging marks add more and more exclusive features to the globally unique palace-style hotel! In addition to its remarkable external architecture design, the Grand Hotel would like to offer the best accommodation quality to our guests and surprise them at the moment when opening the door!
Therefore, to enhance the service quality of guest rooms and hotel’s competitiveness, attract more international tourists and domestic travelers and maintain the leading position in the increasingly competitive industry, the overall renovation of guest rooms in Grand Hotel is a task which brooks no delay.
Keep the traditions and walk into modern era
Old architecture with new soul
The Chinese palace-style architecture of the Grand Hotel has laid her unique position since its establishment on October 10th, 1973. The distinctive and special architecture inside the hotel not only leads the world, its appearance, the interior decoration and the use of colors fully shows the traditional Chinese style. No matter looking from distance or closely, in the daytime or at night, people will never feel tired of seeing it. However, as time goes by, we cannot help but facing the problems of aging equipment.
Recalling the previous largest renovation was the refurbishment of bath equipment in 2008. Except for that, the hotel has never had such a large-scaled renovation work. Guest rooms have never had extensive restoration so the interior equipment has been old and cannot meet guests’ expectation. It is necessary to conduct an overall renovation. Although all the former general managers have planned to refurbish guest rooms, their plan have been delayed and cannot be implemented. Therefore, under Chairman Lee Chien-Jong’s instruction, the General Manager Johnson Chiang planned actively and made a complete evaluation through various departments. To integrate the opinions of each department, they have held dozen of meetings and prepared for one year. After explaining to all the colleagues and with the consent of the Board, the renovation plan has finally been finalized.
The renovation of guest rooms is significant to the Grand Hotel. It not just renovate the rooms, it is also a beginning for Grand Hotel to face the war positively in the increasingly competitive hotel industry. To live up the reputation of State Guest House, we expect to provide Ambassador-class hospitality service quality to every guest coming to Grand Hotel, no matter in software or hardware.
The points of room renovation include changing traditional keys into IC card, bathroom equipment modification, renovation of standard rooms, re-equipment of Elite guest rooms and the theme design and planning of the corridor.
Ancient-coin-shape key has become a lost art
Since the hotel has been established, guests had mixed feeling about the ancient-coin-shape key of the Grand Hotel. Although it is very heavy, it has been loved by guests because of its strong oriental style. Some guests even want to bring it home. However, in response to modern trends, the ancient-coin-shape keys have been replaced by IC cards. Even though the most characteristic keys with ancient copper coins disappear from the door, it will rebirth in Grand Hotel Cultural and Creative Center as a key chain. Every guest can bring it home and keep an eternal imprint of the Grand Hotel.
Renovation of bathroom
The bath equipment that has drawn many criticisms from guests will be completely transformed after the renovation.
In the renovation of rooms, the transformation of bath rooms is the highlight of the work. In addition to build a good drainage system, the bathrooms are equipped with 4 pieces or 8 pieces equipments according to the room types. After a long day trip, our guests can easily freshen up.
The dust-laden beech flooring reproduces the elegance
The most special thing in the renovation work is that the beech flooring covered by thick carpets will be showed again. Everyone knows that since the establishment of the new building in 1970, it was supervised by Miss Kong. Her carefulness and discreetness were the guarantee of Grand Hotel’s quality. The quality of beech flooring is excellent. To look for the beech flooring with such a good quality at present time shall be very costly. As to the daily maintenance, carpet and wooden floor have their own advantages and disadvantages not to mention they also have different styles. However, reproducing the original beech flooring should be the biggest feature of the Grand Hotel.
Transformation of Standard Rooms
Generally, at the time of construction planning, there will be no room without view. In the past, the Grand Hotel has planned some guest rooms without view because of the reception and safety of foreign heads of states and government dignities. The purpose is to provide rooms for bodyguards to stay closely and protect the guest. The non-view rooms are still kept until now. Those rooms are not popular and guests usually do not want to choose the room unless they don’t have other choices. The rooms are also called “dark rooms”. However, the renovation of these non-view standard rooms will impress our guests. The design conception has elegantly transformed the rooms. The rooms are now bright and pleasant. Subtle arrangements enlarge the visual space and these rooms now provide guests a comfortable and tranquil place for resting.
Renovation of rooms fused with traditional and modern
Rooms of Grand Hotel are larger than other hotels, this is an advantage. The conception of room renovation was not intended to make dramatic change, but to give her the era meaning again and keep showing her elegance in the existed spirit and connotation of the Grand Hotel.
When the door is opened, the first thing comes into view is the closet and minibar at the entrance. The room is designed with brown color tone. When guests enter into the room, they will feel the stable ambience. The surprises of the newly-equipped rooms are waiting for you!
After passing the entrance, the beautiful room will widen your eyes. A simple plum flower painting wall replaces the heavy headboard, reducing the heaviness of the overall space. The rooms are decorated with modified Chinese lamp holder in order to correspond with the palace-style architectural appearance of the Grand Hotel. We removed the heavy Chinese antique furniture to make the rooms more spacious.
Against another wall is a simple shape desk, providing a convenient place for guests to handle their affairs. With the room renovation, we also introduced the 3C devices to meet the requirements of businessmen, including USB, HDMI and WiFi, etc.
Bright bathroom is the most important place for guests. The newly renovated business rooms have been equipped with wet-dry separation bathrooms. In addition, the double sinks meet the requirements of today’s travelers.
Long corridor along the rooms is decorated with traditional arts
Looking the five-star hotels around the world, only few hotels have such a spacious corridor.
The main purpose of establishing the Grand Hotel was to receive foreign heads of state and honorable guests. Because of the safety consideration, the Grand Hotel cannot be compared with general hotels. The spacious corridor will allow the guests feel ease and comfortable while walking through it without sense of oppression.
The furnishing of the new corridor remains the spirit of Chinese traditional arts of the Grand Hotel as the main concept of design. Modern smooth lines respond to the bright and fresh walls, showing a classic modern style.
The original red carpet has been replaced in order to match the new design of corridor. Chinese classic elements have been introduced as well. The designer has selected the patterns of the four plants: the orchid, the bamboo, the chrysanthemum, and the plum blossom, to make the carpet especially woven for the Grand Hotel and laid on the corridor of guest rooms. Do you notice that? The Chinese-style geometric lines on the windows of non-view rooms have become round tracery, responding the four plants! The bamboo and chrysanthemum not only have classic style but with festive charm! They welcome each guest on the corridor to guest rooms.
Most people like new and fine-quality things. It seems more obvious that the affection to new things reflects on the hotel people choose to stay when they are travelling. People like the newly open and newly renovated hotels. It is easy to understand that the newly established or newly renovated hotels have new equipments with good quality, which make guests feel comfortable and worthy of money.
With the completion of the 1st stage room renovation, the 2nd stage work of 2nd ~ 6th floors will soon begin. The renovation is estimated to be done during April 20th to September 20th, 2014. Although the renovation works have been carried out in two stages, the overall style of rooms on the 2nd~ 9th floors is consistent. We will present the most beautiful and elegant elements of the Grand Hotel in front of everyone.
